The Story
2009, Hermosa Beach. No studio. No playbook. Just a SHOUTcast server, a mic, and a conviction that the culture deserved its own signal. We called it online radio, because “podcast” wasn’t a word people used yet. We were broadcasting band interviews and live sets years before that was a thing you could just… do.
Real bands came through. Fortunate Youth. Special C. Fartbarf. Warbringer. We threw shows with a green carpet at the door and the club raging on a Tuesday night. Then we took the whole vibe to the sand — Wake Up Wednesdays, sunset sessions on the beach that ran for years. Some nights we counted more than 80 people out there.
People said: you can’t do that. We did it weekly.
The station grew shows the way a scene grows bands: From the Depths hosted by Adam the Bat. Born In To This — named for the Bukowski documentary, “for me it means being born into music.” Twirl Radio with Kyle “K.P.” Perez. Direct From Kauai with Santiago Soto. Evening Tales with Mags & Hales. DJ Kherb Kut on the decks. Vinyl, rock, hip hop, metal, punk, reggae, electronic — every genre got a channel.
IndoRadio → the shows → the beach → The Tapes → Blue Beach. Blue Beach is version three or four. IndoRadio was version 1.0 — the prototype.
Then life did what life does. The server went quiet. The domain sat. But nothing was thrown away — and in 2026 we went looking. We found 62 original broadcast tapes on a recovery drive and the old site preserved in the Internet Archive. So this page exists: the receipts, the timeline, and the tapes — back on the air where they belong.
